Refractory Metals
Science was never my strong point at school and whenever I attended physics or chemistry lessons I tended to skulk around at the back of the classroom. Now I`m older I actually find science to be really interesting even if I`m still baffled by a number of subject maters. Mention things like Refractory Metals to me and you might get a rather muted response unless I had done some research on the subject matter. As it happens the one bit of info that I do remember about my science classes at school involves Refractory Metals. I seem to remember these metals can be exposed to high amounts of heat and they will still wear slowly in the process. Due to their high melting point they can be useful in a host of products and they can be made into bars, ingots, foil or wire, depending on what they are going to be used for. Probably the best example II can give of a use for the Refractory Metals is the tungsten wire that is used in household lighting bulbs. Obviously the amount of heat that goes through one of these bulbs is high as anyone who has tried to change a blown bulb will find if they take the old one out after it has been used. I might have been rubbish at science whilst I was at school but at least I can remember what Refractory Metals were.
